Is it Time for a Mold Inspection?

Mold prevention in your home

Why should I consider mold inspection and testing? It is impossible to prevent mold spores from getting inside your home, they exist everywhere in the outdoor environment and can easily get inside through open doors and windows, air ducts and vents, or even attach themselves to your clothes, and shoes. It is also not possible to deprive mold from feeding on organic materials, like carpet, paper, wood, insulation, paint, drywall , fabrics, cotton, and dust that are found all over your home. The only option you have as a home owner is to make sure the ambient conditions in your house are not right for mold to grow.

One part of the metabolic process of mold is to release mold spores into the air. Eventually the mold spores will settle on or stick to surfaces and to the ground. Most of the time we will see this effect in areas that are next to or closer to the mold source. For example: if there is active mold growth in a bathroom, then a bedroom that might be attached to that bathroom will have settled mold spores, resulting in elevated mold levels.

Mold spores are very resilient and can survive long periods of time and because they often attach themselves to dirt and dust particles. The lack of basic cleaning, along with clutter-filled areas, results in reservoirs where dirt and dust gather, creating prime locations for mold spores to reside, eventually resulting in mold growth in your home. If you are experiencing any kind of mold growth in your home, please contact us today for mold testing and mold inspection.

THE TOP AREAS IN YOUR HOME YOU CAN MAINTAIN TO LIMIT MOLD GROWTH

  1. All areas susceptible to a water source: Kitchen and bathroom sink vanities, various supply lines; behind toilets, refrigerator, dishwasher areas. As well as your HVAC or air handler drain attachments and closet.
  2. The spaces between your dishwasher and the kitchen cabinets is a prime spot for mold. Try to clean this space once every couple of months if possible.
  3. Under the sinks in the kitchen and bathrooms.
  4. In the grout of your tile or caulking around your sinks, showers or bathtubs.
  5. In your laundry room behind the washer and dryer units.
  6. The grill under your refrigerator and the space between your counter top and refrigerator. Again, try to clean out this area every couple of months if possible.
  7. Check and maintain your air conditioning (system) unit. Make sure the filter is changed on a regular schedule.
  8. Clean up cluttered areas of your home and remove dust and dirt that can house mold spores.
  9. Have your roof inspected on a regular basis and make any necessary repairs, fix foundation cracks, address any issues with plumbing or plumbing leaks.
  10. Have your carpets and upholstery in your home professionally cleaned once or twice a year.
  11. Wooden cutting boards, trash cans, behind or under the stove and windows and window sills in the kitchen are like haven for mold spores. They feed off these places, so keeping them clean and dry is critical for keeping mold at bay.
